Job Exporting and Re-Training

There has been talk about the out-sourcing of jobs in America. In the past when auto worker's jobs were being out-sourced to Mexico, it was suggested that auto workers be retrained for high tech jobs. Now that high tech jobs are being out-sourced to India, we are being told that re-training of laid off workers is necessary (re - Alan Greenspan's recent comments).

I've decide to list the US jobs (in no particular order) that cannot be, by their very nature, out-sourced as it would be impractical:
  1. Counter server at a fast food restaurant
  2. Donut shop server
  3. Restaurant waitress/waiter
  4. Restaurant chef
  5. Department store cashier
  6. Grocery store cashier
  7. Auto Mechanic
  8. Doctor
  9. Nurse
  10. Dentist
  11. Dental technician
  12. Doctor's office receptionist
  13. Lawn care specialist
  14. Gardner
  15. Plumber
  16. Electrician
  17. Home remodeler
  18. Barber/hair stylist
  19. Bus driver
  20. Train engineer
  21. Garbage/recycling collector
  22. Snow plow operator
  23. School administrator
  24. Teacher
  25. Police officer
  26. Fireman
  27. Ambulance driver
  28. Emergency medical technician
  29. School crossing guard
  30. Post office mail sorter/counter person
  31. Mailman
  32. Electric utility worker
  33. Telephone company utility worker
  34. Airline pilot
  35. Flight attendant
  36. Airplane mechanic
  37. Limousine driver
  38. Veterinarian
As you can see, the list is not very lengthy. Did you see anything in the list that interested you? If not, you might want to consider immigrating to India. The cost of living is lower and jobs (and work hours) are also plentiful.
