New Orleans Mayor Nagin

New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin has been quick to castigate the federal government of the plight of the citizens of New Orleans. The mayor does little as he uses profanities to describe everyone else.

One has to ask, what was the mayor thinking when he announced a mandatory evacuation of New Orleans knowing full well that 1/3 of the citizens had indicated in previous polls that they would refuse to evacuate under any circumstances. Where was his leadership in convincing citizens to leave prior to the arrival of hurricane Katrina. Where was the advanced planning to move 100,000 of citizens with no means of transportation out of New Orleans? There should have been - in place - identified collection centers around the city for those wanting to leave and not having transportation. There should already have been a plan to use New Orleans school buses to transport people from collection centers. There should have been planned areas outside the city well above sea level to move these people to years before this catastrophe occurred.

Why did police and firemen have to 'loot' stores for food and water just to be able to continue to do their jobs! Mayor Nagin's lack of planning is abominable! He should be held criminally liable for the loss of life in his city for doing nothing! His is a city 6 feet below sea level, with levees capable of handling a category 3 hurricane with a category 5 hurricane barreling in at his city. Where was the planning that should have been in place in the years leading up to August 29, 2005!

All of Mayor Nagin's protestations seem to be intended to divert attention from his incompetence in the planning ahead for a disaster that was expected to occur sooner or later. And yet there was none on Mayor Nagin's part.
