Presidential Race Polls
Since early spring of this year, the media has been reporting on polls that are intended to show how George W. Bush would do against a particular Democrat if the election were held 'today'. With John Kerry having received his party's nomination in late August, the polls now all reflect a head-to-head election between the two. The percentages meander up and down for both candidates and one has to wonder who - exactly - the pollsters a querying and why do they seem to keep changing their minds!
Why the media insists in this meaningless "if the election were held today" farce is hard to understand other than to try and generate TV ratings. The only poll of any consequence is slated to be held November 2nd and that's the only poll that will matter. The media seems to be trying to sway undecided voters in to voting for today's poll leader.
The media should swear off these inane weekly presidential candidate polls and concentrate on providing viewers with each candidate's position and when either candidate misstates his or his opponents true position. This would provide a much greater service to their viewers and provide them with a real basis for an informed vote on election day.
