U.N. Human Rights Commission Off Base

A United Nations Human Rights Commission has just issued a report on the U.S. detainee facility on the island of Cuba at Guantanamo. The Commission has instructed the United States to try the detainees in court or release them.

The United Nations Human Rights Commission issued this report without having even visited the detention facility. They insisted on being able to interview the detainees and the US Government denied their request. As far as I know, the International Red Cross is the designated organization which is to have access to the detainees for the purposes of interviews. Had the United Nations been in operation during World War II, they probably would have demanded that the United States release all German prisoners so that they could then return to the front lines to kill more US service men. It is established practice to hold enemy captives until after the conflict is over. After World War II, some German soldiers were not release from US based POW camps until the middle of 1946, a year after the end of war with Germany in May 1945. Reports indicate that some of the detainees previously released from 'Gitmo' have been since implicated in terrorist attacks around the world.

There is no reason why 'Gitmo' should be closed and its detainees released why the war against Al-Qaeda continues. World War I & II prisoners were held until each of those conflicts ended and so should the detainees.
