Brown University protesters
A group of angry protesters at Brown University confiscated all copies of the Brown Herald campus newspaper this past week and stormed the campus newspaper's offices to destroy all remaining copies. Their outrage was directed at an ad that the Brown Herald staff accepted and printed that contained the view point that African-Americans should not received compensation from the United States for their ancestors being kidnapped and brought to America to be held in slavery. Obviously an ad of this nature would generate opinions for and against. What the protesters failed to understand is that by confiscating the copies, they were displaying mob censorship and not allowing other students to read and decide for themselves what they thought of the ad.
Letters to the editors of the Brown Herald newspaper would probably have been a more reasonable response if the protestors disagreed with the acceptance and printing of the ad.
Our universities are becoming a hotbed of intolerance and political correctness and to deny freedom of the press via mob violence will be the downfall of what universities were first created to provide, a chance at a rounded education and freedom to discuss all topics without fear of censorship.
