The Boston Archdiocese
The Boston Archdiocese has for decades hidden the fact that there were a number of priests who were pedophiles and who were molesting young men they had occasion to be alone with. When the complaints were voiced to the archdiocese, the pedophile priest was usually moved to another parish without notifying his new post of his predelection. Cardinal Bernard Law was aware of one pedophile's problem and continued to move him from one parish to another in the hopes that the problem would just go away.
The very same Cardinal Law now wants to be the one to 'fix' a decades old problem and stay on as Cardinal of Boston. One who as not lived up to the trust placed in him be the parishioners of Boston, now expects to be able to restore trust. Trust is earned not given freely as the Cardinal hopes. Trust has been destroyed between all parishioners, their parish priests and their Cardinal. To expect that Cardinal Law can be the one who restores trust is like expection the fox to be placed in charge of the hen house and all will be well.
Cardinal Bernard Law can only resolve the matter by resigning and allowing someone else not tainted with the decades-long pedophile coverup to be appointed in his place to clean up a mess the Roman Catholic church has chosen to sweep under the rug. Only a new "face" can begin to restore the trust the Boston Roman Catholics deserve to have in their religious institutions.
