Here We Go Again

The Major League Baseball Players Association is again meeting to determine a date for another baseball strike. If their last strike in 1994 is any example, they will strike prior to the end of the 2002 season and the World Series is in jeopardy. For a group of individuals making on average $2.3 million a year, they certainly can be easily dissatisfied.

Between the baseball owners and the player's reps we have two groups arguing on how to divide what amounts to billions of dollars a year in revenue. You would think with that much money to divide up, both sides could easily more than fill their pockets and be satisfied, but no. To be honest, the last strike in '94 was enough for me to decide to ignore major league baseball altogether.

If another strike ensues, I would suggest to those still interested in the playing of this sport to begin a fans strike one week before any scheduled player's strike and maybe, just maybe, both sides will come to their senses and realize the folly of their dispute and that antagonizing the fans in neither's best interest.
