Microsoft Lawsuit of Lindows.com

Microsoft has again shown is obstinency in suing Lindows.com for use of the term Lindows. Any reasonable individual could see that it is not an attempt to deceive anyone into confusing Lindows with Windows, but a contraction of Linux and Windows to indicate that it is the Linux-based operating system and runs Windows applications. Microsoft is intending to prevent competition in the PC operating system environment and knows that any OS that can run Windows-based applications can provide Microsoft a run for its money.

So much for Microsoft welcoming competition to the arena. What Microsoft wants is the appearance of competition to use to keep the Justice Department off its back as it continues to dominate the OS business - even if it means trying to put out of business anyone the could pose a threat to its OS dominance. Right now it has only Apple's OS X as a 'competitor' to point to. Interestingly, even if its lawsuit fails, it may well achieve its goal as Lindows could run out of money trying to fight the lawsuit and have to 'close shop'.

Microsoft continues to act and be the bully on the block. It wants total dominance and doesn't care what it takes to achieve that goal. Bad products (does anyone really like ANY Microsoft product) won't win market share, but being the only option for PC users sure helps get those products to leave the shelf on their way through the checkout counter.
