Napster and 'free' music
I guess Napster fans want to have it both ways; free downloads of their favorite bands music, and more new music from their favorite bands. The fact that sharing, as they call it, is actually stealing music from their favorite band seems to have escaped them. If all music is to be free on the internet via Napster what would will be the point of bands spending their time recording new music if it's going to be given away for free?!? How do you pay the bills that way.
I'll bet if the fans doing the sharing were asked to work and not get paid their answer would be why bother?
Yes, the recording companies take a major share of the CD sales income, but stealing is not the way to equalize the distribution between the artists and the record companies.
I believe the expression "killing the goose that lays the golden egg" is quite appropriate in this case. Stealing is stealing and it can't be disguised as sharing. If I reach into someone else's pocket, take their money and put it in my pocket, I could hardly call that sharing could I.
