Norton Anti-Virus Goof
The Norton Anti-Virus feature Live-Update has a problem and so far they have failed to address it. It has to do with Norton Anti-virus 2000 Live Update and Windows 2000. The Live Update feature fails unless you are logged in as the administrator (how many of us log in as administrator just to use our PC). So unless you decide to forgo your user id on your home PC and always log in as administrator, Live Update is of no use. In order to update your virus definitions, you need to log out of your user account, log back in as administrator, and then manually run "Live" Update.
The error message you receive when trying to update your virus definitions from a user account is also confusing. It fails and is unable to complete the update and gives you a pop-up screen to allow you to exit. If you choose to exit, you are warned that exiting will corrupt your installation of Norton Anti-Virus and you will have to un-install and re-install the application.
I guess testing Norton products with the various PC operating systems before shipping the products is too much to ask. The thinking must be, after you've bought the product, for good or bad, you'll continue to use it rather than junk it and buy something else.
