Windows XP
Microsoft has just announced a new operating system called Windows XP. It's due to be released in October of this year and Microsoft expects it to be the next big money maker for the company. My question to 'uncle Bill' would be how can that be?!?
Microsoft has sold consumers first Windows 95, then Windows 98 and recently Windows Millenium Edition (a.k.a. Windows ME). Exactly why will consumers want to buy another operating system from Microsoft at $200 to $300 a copy? What could be so spectacular about Windows XP that consumers would want to shell out more money.
And companies are not going to start purchasing it for their employees either. It takes almost a year for a medium size company to qualify a new opeating system for widespread use within their organization. Many companies are only now beginning to install Windows 2000 as a replacement for Windows NT 4.0.
Microsoft seems to succeed even in spite of its own ineptitude. My guess is this is one time when Microsoft's luck has run out and it is getting ready to lay its biggest egg!
