Blasphemy Death Penalty

In Pakistan, a court sentenced a young Muslim to death Saturday (7/27) for making derogatory statements about the Prophet Mohammed and Islam, police and court officials said. Wajihul Hassan, 27, was also sentenced to 10 years in jail. Last week, a Pakistani Christian who claimed he was Jesus Christ and called Islam a fake religion was convicted of blasphemy and sentenced to death by hanging despite arguments that he is mentally ill.

If these aren't human rights violations of the highest order, I don't know what is. But where is the outcry from the world community. Where is the condemnation of a judicial system that would perpetrate such inhumanity on its citizens. Some may interpret the Koran to call for the death penalty for such 'transgressions', but any sense of religious freedom should override these ludicrous sentences.

That in the 21st century, such laws can still exist and are enforced against Muslims, Christians or Jews is totally unacceptable. The world community should and must condemn these sentences and cause these individuals to be released immediately.
