Iran's Continued Nuclear Enrichment Defiance

Iran continues to defy the United Nations when it comes to stopping enrichment of nuclear fuel. It has intimated it might decrease its oil exports if the United Nations adds to the sanctions it recently imposed.

Iran's threat to decrease or even stop exporting oil appears to be a serious threat to the oil importing nations, but truth be known, the threat is an empty one. Iran's oil production facilities are in need of serious repair and oil production is decreasing over time as it continues to try an pump oil from its reserves with facilities in dire need of repair and upgrade. As it is, profits from oil exporting are dropping and Iran will soon be in dire need of currency to run its government. Even more important, Iran imports almost all its refined oil products as it has virtually no capability to refine crude oil into gasoline, kerosene or diesel. Iran should be more concerned with a suspension of exports of refined products to Iran from the outside world. A short term interruption of refined imports would start to cripple the Iranian economy and turn its citizens against the government of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the architect of the current Iranian-United Nations confrontation.

It would behoove the outside world to informally notify President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that he risks a cut-off of refined crude oil products if he continues to defy the United Nations sanctions. It is time he start preparing the Iranian population for one of two things: a reason for backpedaling on his promise never to stop nuclear fuel enrichment, or living a much sparser life style .... in the dark!
